Writing

Let’s be real. Much of the garden writing out there is, uhhhhh, boring practical. The style can be very homogenous and many of the articles lack interest. What if you could hire a horticulturist that writes in their truth and tells it like it is? Well somebody’s gotta say it and that somebody is me!

There are some real characters out here in these garden streets and I have stories to tell. I will educate and entertain your audience with thoughtful horticultural commentary on interesting plants, people, and places. Check out some of my articles and contact me for hire here.

Get to know America’s head gardener

NSW NORTHSIDE WOMEN | July 2019 | Abra Lee

As founder of the University of Virginia, architect of Monticello, third president of the United States and author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson’s name is synonymous with the Fourth of July.

Noisy neighbors? Plant them out of your life

NSW NORTHSIDE WOMEN | April 2019 | Abra Lee

My parents’ yard is darn near a scene straight out of “Bambi.” Located in an urban environment, it sits on two acres and is filled with trees, shade and bustling wildlife.

Yes, you can — grow your own wedding flowers

Talk turkey, then tulips

NSW NORTHSIDE WOMEN | Oct 2018 | Abra Lee

In September, I traveled to Houston, Texas, to witness the On the Run II tour, starring Beyoncé and Jay-Z. While entering the stadium with my cousin Mimi, I was stunned at how many tour buses filled the parking lot.

Less junk, more utility for Mama’s garden

NSW NORTHSIDE WOMEN | May 2019 | Abra Lee

I did a short survey for this article, and by short, I mean gathering information from one person — my Mama. The question, “What is the best garden gift you ever received?” Her answer: that one time I installed an iron arch with akebia vines in her yard.

Speaking

If you are looking for a horticulturist who takes their self too seriously and has perfect pronunciation of every Botanical Latin term (I’m looking at you Lamprocapnos spectabilis)…chile please, I am not the one.

However, if you are looking for a horticulturist that encourages conversation and has a fresh and unapologetic perspective on the world of gardening, you have come to the right place!

Contact me so I can get on your calendar today.
